Located in Chicago, Tom has over 25 years of diverse project experience in civil and geotechnical engineering for hydroelectric power and dams. His work has included the planning, analysis, design, and construction of hydroelectric projects, dams, and locks. This includes projects where new hydroelectric plants were added to previously non‑powered dams and seismic rehabilitation projects.
Tom’s expertise covers designing construction works and permanent structures including cofferdams, earth retention systems, ground improvement, cutoff walls, dams, hydraulic structures, and powerhouses. He is also experienced with risk analyses and developing construction requirements for the modification and rehabilitation of existing dams.
A vice president with our Energy group, Tom helps lead projects as well as the teams of professional engineers working on them. He’s served as lead geotechnical engineer for four new hydroelectric plants on the Ohio River. Additionally, he acted as project manager for the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project on the Des Moines River in Pella, Iowa and as design manager for the Priest Rapids Right Embankment Improvement Project on the Columbia River in Washington.
