Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, recently expanded its presence in the federal design market in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The firm welcomed three strategic hires to its new office in the Hampton Roads area, including Tres Meek, PE, the former Commanding Officer of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic, as the lead for the firm’s US Federal Buildings group.
Meek joins Stantec after a celebrated 28-year career as a Navy Civil Engineer Corps officer and will be responsible for driving Buildings growth across all key Stantec federal accounts, in support of goals outlined in the firm’s strategic plan. He will draw on the experience he gained in his military career, particularly his work helping develop the Navy’s military construction program. Meek has extensive knowledge of Department of Defense facilities and operations as well as a deep understanding of the NAVFAC and Navy shore management processes.
John Brown, PE, joins as a senior program manager in the US Federal Infrastructure group. He has earned a reputation for successfully delivering complex projects for federal and local governments, including a 20-plus year career in the U.S. Navy last serving as a director of logistics for Naval Special Warfare. Brown has led teams in facilities and infrastructure planning, design, and construction, supporting military installations in the US and Europe.
Uday Khambhammettu, PE, joins as the new resilience leader for the Mid-Atlantic region. An environmental engineer with more than 20 years of experience, he has built his career on his passion for water resources, climate change adaptation, and creating a more sustainable future. He will expand Stantec’s water, wastewater, and coastal flooding and resiliency capabilities in the Hampton Roads and greater Mid-Atlantic region. His expertise in water distribution master planning, watershed planning, floodplain analysis, tidal gate design, and stormwater retrofits, developed through projects nationwide, will be key to this effort.
New, centrally located office
The firm’s new office is ideally located on Bendix Road, which has easy access to its clients and facilities. Stantec is currently supporting several federal agencies on various projects throughout the region. Agencies include NAVFAC, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the Department of Defense Education Activity.
Stantec is also working with state and local governments from this office, including the Virginia Department of Transportation, supporting engineering and inspection services for Hampton Roads’ tunnels, movable bridges, and ferry system. The firm is also involved in the planning and development of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel expansion project, which is vital to connecting the southside and peninsula communities and serving as part of the future regional express lanes network in Virginia.
“For more than 30 years, Stantec has served the military and civilian communities throughout the Hampton Roads area,” said Jim Murray, operations leader for Stantec’s Virginia Beach office. “By opening the doors to our new location in Virginia Beach and welcoming our new colleagues, we reaffirm our commitment to providing high-quality services and project delivery to our federal, state, and local clients.”
