Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been recognized by the American Planning Association’s Federal Planning Division 2023 Awards for three projects. The Federal Planning Division Awards recognize projects that best exemplify the benefits of a federal agency working cooperatively with another federal, state, or local agency to demonstrate the value of comprehensive planning for the greater public benefit. All three Stantec projects were selected for award in the Outstanding Collaborative Planning Category, which communicates how working through a large-scale coordinated effort contributed to the success of the plan.
“It’s a tremendous honor to receive these awards on behalf of the team and our clients,” said Cyrena Chiles Eitler, strategic planning advisor, Stantec. “When engaging the right partners with open communication, I’m always amazed at what communities can accomplish.”
Stantec’s awarded projects are:
Naval Support Activity Annapolis Military Installation Resiliency Review
Annapolis, Maryland
Honor Award for Outstanding Collaborative Planning Project
The military installation resiliency review for Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis was undertaken in partnership with the City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. The review charted a long-term path for sustainability of the entire region by assessing vulnerabilities, risks, and hazards. The community-led project and resulting resilience action plan addresses land subsistence, sea level rise, coastal flooding, storm surges, and inadequate stormwater management.
Maryland Military and Community Compatibility Website and Companion Handbook
Maryland, United States
Merit Award for Outstanding Collaborative Planning Project
Military installations are among Maryland’s most valuable assets and key to its economic growth. The Maryland Department of Planning worked with Stantec to develop a website and handbook to guide planning strategies and communication, while considering strategies for growth and expansion of both the military and surrounding community. The resulting website and handbook provide guidance for state and local governments, military, private sector, and the general public.
