Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has hired Jim Smith as its new US Program and Construction Management (PMCM) Infrastructure sector leader. In his new role, Smith will be responsible for growing Stantec’s PMCM presence across the United States and will work closely with Stantec’s Canadian PMCM business to grow the company’s presence across North America more broadly.
Smith brings more than 30 years of experience in the PMCM industry and has developed a reputation for delivering innovative engineering projects. Throughout his career, he has worked with clients in transportation, water, technology, and state and local government—ensuring successful project delivery and driving profitable growth, ultimately exceeding sales and business plan projections by 40% in his previous role. He joins Stantec from Vanir Construction Management, where he was President of the firm and led the Program, Project, Construction Management, and Real Estate Development Firm services.
“I’ve taken great pride in creating innovative solutions for public and private construction projects throughout my career,” stated Smith. “Stantec’s dedication to providing its clients with creative and sustainable project delivery made my decision to join the team an easy one. I welcome the opportunity to help the company grow its PMCM business.”
Smiths’ success in winning work across multiple sectors will be pivotal in supporting Stantec’s vision of expanding its PMCM market presence. With his wealth of experience and track record in strategic operations, organizational management, and business development, Smith will be a crucial member of the firm’s PMCM Infrastructure team. Additionally, Smith’s dedication to delivering projects aimed at serving the needs of communities is directly aligned with Stantec’s commitment to fostering more sustainable, equitable and connected communities.
“Program and construction management has been a core aspect of Stantec’s Infrastructure business for over 40 years,” said Susan Walter, executive vice president of Stantec’s Infrastructure business. “Jim is a welcome addition to our PMCM team, his experience and guidance will be crucial to Stantec’s continued growth in the PMCM sector.”
Stantec has an extensive history in delivering program and construction management infrastructure projects. The firm provided program and construction services for the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) Terminal Redevelopment project. Additionally, the company provided PMCM services for the Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center - Carol Jenkins Barrnett Pavilion. Stantec also provided PMCM services for the Fort McMurrary Airport Authority on an airport expansion and redevelopment project, which included a new air terminal building.
