Stantec receives three Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards

10/20/2023 MONTREAL, QC; VANCOUVER, BC TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in design and engineering, has been awarded three 2023 Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE) Awards. The awards recognize exceptional engineering projects by Canadian firms and highlight the important work they do in communities across Canada and the world.

This year, Stantec won the Engineering a Better Canada Award, which is presented to a project that best showcases how engineering enhances the social, economic, or cultural quality of life of Canadians. Stantec also received Awards of Excellence for the firm’s work on the Library and Archives Canada Storage and Preservation Building in Quebec, and the Comox Valley Water Treatment Project in British Columbia.

Award of Excellence & Engineering a Better Canada Award
Library and Archives Canada Storage and Preservation Building
Needing more space to store and preserve its valuable collection of heritage archives, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) undertook the construction of a new facility in Quebec, adjacent to its existing Preservation Centre. Stantec's engineering team supported LAC through a public-private partnership in the design of the first federal building meeting Canada's Greening Government Strategy, having net zero carbon normal operations. Certified LEED v4 Gold level, the new state-of-the-art facility helps preserve a collection of heritage artifacts made up of 22 million books and 425,000 art objects for the next 500 years. In addition, an innovative fire protection system was designed to reduce the risk of accidental triggering and to avoid the presence of water in the vaults.

Award of Excellence
Comox Valley Water Treatment Project
Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) provides regional water supply to 50,000 residents in the Courtenay, Comox, and the K’omoks First Nation in British Columbia. Prior to completion of the new water treatment system, the community suffered from numerous boil-water advisories. Working in collaboration, Stantec and Aecon successfully delivered the $126 million Comox Valley Water Treatment Project (CVWTP) in a record setting 26 months. The new water treatment plant and conveyance system can supply 75 million liters per day (MLD) of treated water and is expandable to 120 MLD. Built with future growth in mind, the new water treatment system will accommodate any future treatment that may be needed, providing a secure supply of reliable, high-quality drinking water for generations to come.

The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards, co-sponsored by ACEC-Canada and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine celebrates these contributions. The industry's highest honours, the CCE Awards are presented to projects that showcase incredible engineering feats and accomplishments by Canadian consulting engineering firms using ingenuity and innovation to connect communities, grow the economy, and improve safety and sustainability.
