Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, will continue to deliver program management services for the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF), working as an integrated team with City of San José staff from the Environmental Services Department (ESD) and Public Works Department.
As the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) transitions from the first 10-year phase to the next, Stantec will offer the continuity of knowledge and forward-looking thinking to continue the momentum already achieved to meet changing resource, regulatory, and technology challenges. This transition in Stantec’s role reflects the success of the last nine years, which has seen the overall organizational maturity of the program grow through the implementation of processes and tools, but most importantly, the development of City staff. Stantec will continue to support ESD as program maturity continues and reaches the point where the City can manage the program independently.
“It has been the high point of my career partnering with the City over the past nine years to deliver the CIP. Since the start of the CIP in late 2013, Stantec and the City have made great strides as an integrated team, from conducting a CASA award-winning mobilization effort to committing more than $800 million in projects to date,” said Simon Alder, Stantec vice president and program manager. “As we look ahead to the opportunities of the next 10 years, our team is looking forward to continuing our partnership with the City and supporting the South Bay community with improved treatment facilities.”
The San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility serves more than 1.4 million residents and a business sector with more than 17,000 sewer connections. The current CIP was established to address rehabilitation needs, increase operational reliability of the wastewater facility, improve process performance by using newer technologies, and maintain compliance with regulations to protect the environment. Stantec’s institutional knowledge, industry innovations, and best practices will enable the team to refine and optimize future CIP delivery to sustain success, continuity, and uninterrupted RWF operation.
