Stantec bridge design receives transportation award for excellence in Quebec

Engineered wood bridge design for seven First Nations communities recognized by the Association québécoise des transports

MONTREAL, QC TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has received an award of excellence from the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr) for an engineered wood bridge design for First Nations communities in Ontario. The award, presented at the 14th Grands Prix d'excellence en transport gala in Montreal, recognizes a project that showcases Quebec transportation expertise beyond its borders.

The project is the result of close collaboration with Hexaki, the Whitefeather Forest Community Resource Management Authority (WFCRMA) and seven First Nations in northern Ontario. Once completed, the new bridge will cross the Berens River, improving access for communities in the region, which are affected by the early melting of ice bridges used for winter travel due to climate change.

“We are honoured to receive this award, which recognizes our bridges and civil engineering expertise in Quebec and reflects our commitment to building partnerships based on respect for communities,” said Vanessa Wan, team lead and discipline manager for Stantec, in Montreal. “We have designed a sustainable bridge using local materials that will help meet a critical need for these First Nations. We thank the WFCRMA and the seven First Nations for entrusting us with this project and for their support.”

The AQTr Grands Prix d'excellence en transport awards are presented each year to recognize notable projects and initiatives that improve or promote transportation in Quebec and beyond. The winners are selected by an honorary panel appointed by the AQTr’s board of directors.

The award is a recognition of Stantec’s leadership in bridges and civil engineering structures in Quebec and among First Nations. The firm also designed the Mistissini Wooden Bridge for the Cree Nation of Mistissini in northern Quebec, which won numerous awards for engineering excellence in Quebec and Canada.
