Stantec’s Mario Heppell and Louis Simon Banville, environmental assessment director of expertise and project manager, respectively, recently received awards of excellence from the Association québécoise pour l’évaluation d’impacts (AQÉI). The awards, presented at the association’s biannual awards gala, recognize the exemplary work of practitioners in the field of environmental assessment in Quebec.
“Congratulations to Mario Heppell and Louis Simon Banville, two dedicated biologists on our Environmental Services team in Quebec, on winning these prestigious awards,” said Martin Chevrier, Stantec’s senior principal of Environmental Services in Quebec. “These industry awards are a testament to our colleagues’ knowledge and dedication, and we’re very fortunate to be able to rely on their expertise as we continue to provide high-quality services to our environmental assessment clients.”
Heppell, a Quebec City-based biologist and planner with 35 years of experience, received the Career Award in recognition of his professional achievements. An authority in Quebec’s environmental assessment community, Heppell has led over 700 projects during his career, including several that required complex environmental authorizations and large-scale public consultation processes. He has been heavily involved with a variety of environmental agencies, including the AQÉI for the past 30 years, and is widely respected by his colleagues and peers as a speaker, practitioner, and mentor.
Banville, a biologist with 10 years of experience, received the Discovery Award, which recognizes a young professional who has demonstrated knowledge, achievement, and a commitment within their company. Throughout his career, Banville has worked on over a dozen environmental impact assessments and actively participated in their preparation in accordance with government requirements. A rigorous and dedicated professional, he is a source of inspiration to everyone he works with.
The AQÉI is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring together both professionals and laypeople who are interested in impact assessment and public participation and the use of these tools in planning and decision-making. The organization is affiliated with the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) and a member of the Secrétariat international francophone pour l’évaluation environnementale (SIFÉE).
