Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital (SSRRH) recently celebrated the completion of a new 58,000-square-foot hospital expansion tower, designed by the Sacramento office of global architecture and engineering firm Stantec. This first phase of SSRRH’s major expansion and renovation project will enhance access to acute hospital services to meet Northern California’s growing needs well into the 21st century.
The tower expansion adds significant space to help support the health and healing of patients across multiple departments and services. Highlights include:
The second phase of the project—an expansion of the hospital’s emergency department and support services—is currently underway, with an expected completion date of fall 2022. This final project phase includes the renovation of approximately 10,000 square feet in the existing hospital to add 21 emergency department exam rooms, enhanced dietary service, an expanded lab/blood bank, and the renovation of a central processing unit.
“I cannot think of a more impactful contribution to our community right now after the past two years than the expanded access to services that this project provides,” said Dan Peterson, SSRRH’s chief executive officer. “A lot of credit goes to the whole integrated design and construction team for overcoming incredible obstacles throughout the pandemic to see us through to our opening.”
Stantec is helping to deliver the multiphase project through an innovative Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach, alongside general contractor, HerreroBoldt. The IPD model brings together people, systems, business structures, and practices for a collaborative project execution. Sutter Health is a pioneer and industry leader in the deployment of the IPD model.
“Our integrated team worked collaboratively to deliver this new tower on time and in budget,” said Justin Wise, Stantec’s Sacramento-based healthcare architect of record for the project. “The quality care provided by Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital is essential to keeping the growing Sonoma County community healthy, and we’re proud to help them expand their care capacity.”
