Stantec, a global integrated design firm, has announced the promotion of four key professionals to the senior leadership team for its global Buildings practice.
Design Director
The firm has named David Martin as the practice-wide design director for Buildings. He will work with design leaders and carbon/climate leaders to evolve the firm’s design thinking, champion design culture, unite the firm’s community of designers, and advance the practice.
Based in the firm’s London, UK studio, Martin has led the design of numerous award-winning facilities throughout North America, Canada, and the UK. As a champion of design, he regularly contributes thought leadership to industry publications and global design conferences.
Innovation Leader
Darren Burns has been promoted to innovation leader for Buildings while continuing to serve as the commercial sector leader. He will build relationships to foster cross-pollination of innovation and creativity, capitalizing on emerging business opportunities and strategic partnerships. Burns will guide the exploration, development, and dissemination of new technologies and innovative ideas across the practice to deliver new value to clients.
Burns works from Stantec’s Vancouver, British Columbia studio. He has led diverse project teams in the development of commercial, retail, health, education, and mixed-use projects across North America leveraging design and technology to solve complex challenges.
Discipline Leader, Building Engineering
Leading the building engineering disciplines, Jason Smith will inspire and uphold technical design excellence, technical standards and practice while driving strategic alignment and practice evolution across Stantec’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineering disciplines.
Based in Seattle, Washington, Smith previously led the firm’s mechanical engineering design and team leadership across multiple sectors.
Discipline Leader, Project Management
Michael Harris has been appointed as the discipline leader for project management. In this role, he brings new rigor to Stantec’s project management approach by developing guidelines, standards, and protocols that are leveraged by project teams. Directing a team of professional project managers, he will support the delivery of large scale, complex and strategic projects executed by the practice through excellence in project management, commercial management, and project controls.
Harris is based in Albany, New York, and previously served as the major project lead for the Buildings practice in the US and Buildings US Federal team.
