Global design firm Stantec recently expanded its growing Healthcare practice in Hawaii with the strategic hires of Marni Tam, ACHA, EDAC, LEEP AP, as healthcare principal; Sundae Funai, AIA, as senior project manager; and Kwan Law, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP as senior design coordinator. The additions of Tam, Funai, and Law provide Stantec with a strong network of local healthcare leaders with access to a global Healthcare practice.
“Marni, Sundae, and Kwan collectively bring valuable experience and leadership to our growing team,” said Christie Fong, Stantec senior associate based in Honolulu. “Their expertise in healthcare design and delivery, as well as their ability to implement creative solutions for their clients, will greatly enhance our healthcare service offerings locally and nationally.”
As healthcare principal, Tam has 29 years of experience in the design and delivery of complex healthcare projects. A licensed and board-certified healthcare architect, she is passionate about creating quality patient care environments. Inspired by interacting with different cultures, communities, and environments, Tam appreciates how healthcare planning and design can affect the well-being of patients, families, and caregivers. Practicing in Hawaii for more than 15 years, Tam has helped deliver some of the largest healthcare projects locally, including the Emergency Department Renovation for Wilcox Medical Center, the Wound Care Center for Maui Health Systems, the Bone & Joint Center for Pali Momi Medical Center, and the Queen’s Medical Center Pauahi 5 PCU Conversion.
Funai brings more than 30 years of architectural experience, with the last 20 years focusing on healthcare projects. She is passionate about creating healing environments that are safe, functional, and maintainable for patients, caregivers, and facility staff. A licensed architect in Hawaii, Funai has focused on regulatory work for Joint Commission compliance and recently managed and led the healthcare team for a local full-service design firm, overseeing all phases of project delivery—including marketing, financial, procurement, design, and construction. She’s worked on a wide variety of healthcare building projects for major clients including The Queen’s Medical Center, North Hawaii Community Hospital, and Hawaii Pacific Health.
Law brings more than two decades of architectural experience in healthcare design, as well as expertise in the high-rise residential, retail, and educational spaces. A graduate of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Law has a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Law has collaborated with major local clients including Maui Health Systems, Hawaii Pacific Health, The Queen’s Medical Center, All Access Ortho, Blood Bank of Hawaii, and Lanai Community Health Center.
