Muralikrishna Chelupati, Stantec senior engineer in Cleveland, has been selected to the inaugural class of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists’ (AAEES) 40 Under 40 winners. The honor recognizes outstanding professionals who help to advance the fields of environmental science or environmental engineering.
“We are proud to celebrate Krishna’s inclusion in this elite group of professionals,” said Matthew Travers, Water business operations leader. “He truly demonstrates a commitment to learning and leadership that benefits our clients and the communities we work in. As we face climate change challenges, Krishna’s expertise in analyzing infrastructure response and allowing for effective decision making is critical.”
A key member of the firm’s North American Water team, Chelupati provides hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and has experience working with many of the nation’s largest utilities. He has served as the technical lead on projects including combined, separate sanitary and storm sewer modeling, wet weather master planning, and urban flooding mitigation.
Notably, Chelupati served as the senior engineer for the Clean Water Atlanta Program, a $3.9 billion wet weather control project, one of the largest in the US. This comprehensive, long-term plan ensures residents will have access to a resilient and sustainable drinking water supply, as well as clean streams and rivers. It will reduce flooding and pollution caused by stormwater, monitor water quality, eliminate sanitary sewer spills, and implement a combined sewer overflow reduction plan.
With a passion for engineering and mentoring, you can often find Chelupati working with junior engineers and students, including at the student design competition he started with the Ohio Water Environment Association. He is a board member of the Northeast Section of the Ohio Water Environment Association Executive Committee and also active in the Water Environment Federation.
