Stantec, a global leader in design and engineering, has been awarded two Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE) Awards. The awards recognize exceptional engineering projects by Canadian firms and highlight the important work consulting engineers do in communities across Canada and the world. This year, Stantec received Awards of Excellence for the firm’s work on the Capital Regional District (CRD) Wastewater Treatment Project, and the Peter Lougheed Centre Temporary COVID-19 Treatment Facility.
Award of Excellence
Capital Regional District Wastewater Treatment Project
When the CRD embarked on a significant effort to plan, construct and commission a new 108 million litre per day tertiary treatment facility to serve the Core Area communities of Greater Victoria, Stantec was engaged to provide technical services and act as the owner’s engineers. Collaborating with the CRD’s team to deliver nine major capital projects under the program – the largest in CRD’s history – Stantec developed innovative solutions and used a hybrid procurement model, completing construction in in record time of only four years and with cost savings of $425 million.
Award of Excellence
Peter Lougheed Centre Temporary COVID-19 Treatment Facility
In March 2020, Calgary accounted for 63% of Alberta’s confirmed cases of COVID-19. Stantec, along with Alberta Health Services, Sprung Structures, Faulkbuilt, and CANA Construction worked together to build a temporary treatment facility to accommodate the predicted Pandemic peak in May 2020. The facility was designed and entirely constructed under three weeks, providing an additional 70 treatment spaces and add over 750 square meters of patient treatment space during the Calgary’s first wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Stantec lead the architecture and interior design support (furniture and equipment sourcing) and electrical, structural, and mechanical engineering. Stantec was also responsible for healthcare service planning, engaging key user groups including physicians and nurses.
The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards, co-sponsored by ACEC-Canada and Canadian Consulting Engineer celebrates these contributions. The industry's highest honours, the CCE Awards are presented to projects that exemplify excellence in projects by Canadian consulting engineering firms. ACEC represents companies in Canada that provide professional engineering services to both public and private sector clients. These services include the planning, design and execution of all types of engineering projects, as well as providing independent advice and expertise in a wide range of engineering and engineering-related fields. Canadian Consulting Engineer is a privately-owned magazine for professional engineers working as consultants in the construction field. It is published by Annex Business Media
