Stantec wins two awards at the Grands Prix du Design

Global design firm Stantec won two awards at the 13^th Edition of the Grands Prix du Design held in Montreal on February 5. The redevelopment of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s public plaza in Montreal was awarded a grand prize and the Beaver Lake restoration project on Mount Royal earned a special mention. The annual Grand Prix du Design competition brings together all of the industry’s major players and highlights the talent of Quebec designers and landscape architects.

Redevelopment of the ICAO Public Plaza
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Headquarters is home to the offices of the ICAO, the United Nations and a number of embassies. The ICAO wanted to provide a user-friendly space for its staff, convention delegates and visitors. Stantec created a strong statement to showcase the ICAO headquarters and promote the use of the outdoor space, while concealing safety measures and incorporating the principles of universal accessibility.

Restoration of Mount Royal’s Beaver Lake and The Glades
Located in the upper reaches of Mount Royal in Montreal, Beaver Lake is an emblematic tourist attraction for the city. The basin was designed in 1938 by renowned landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Frederick Gage Todd, and was in need of restoration. Stantec participated in the restoration, applying the principles of sustainable development and respect for heritage landscape.

With its 500 projects and 225 participating firms in more than 60 categories, the Grands Prix du Design offers an overview of the best made-in-Quebec design, architecture and landscape architecture, in the province and around the world.
