Stantec launches comprehensive analysis of Turkish solar panel manufacturing market

ISTANBUL, TURKEY TSX,NYSE:STN

Stantec has launched a market assessment report for the Turkish photovoltaic (PV) panel manufacturing sector, an in-depth look at the country’s evolving solar panel industry. The report, based on collected data from local manufacturers, depicts the history of the market since its beginning in 2011 and provides unique insights into the development and future potential of the solar PV panel market.

The Turkish solar panel industry is a relatively young sector that commenced at the end of 2010 with the revision of the Utilization of Renewable Energy Resources for the Purpose of Generating Electrical Energy Law and introduction of YEKDEM, the Renewable Energy Resources Support Mechanism.

“Since its inception, the market for solar panel manufacturing has gone through several important stages of development,” said Dr. Murat Sarioglu, Operations Director for Stantec in Turkey. “Stantec has extended experience in this market through our focused involvement in energy, resource efficiency and renewable energy projects. Until now, there has been no comprehensive and up-to-date data made available for the PV panel manufacturing sector. It is our pleasure to leverage our sustainable energy engineering expertise and share this extensive sector overview with the market.”

The market report sheds light on the PV panel manufacturing sector in Turkey. It is compiled using the expertise and insights from the energy engineers at Stantec, combined with the collected data from all 16 manufacturers on their area of activities, module and cell installed capacities, investment plans, supply chains, local content, product types, export numbers, and employment.

Key findings:

  • Cumulative PV panel production installed capacity is at 5610 MW/year
  • Cumulative cell production installed capacity is 630 MW/year
  • A quarter of cumulative annual production is exported
  • On average 30% of the employees are women

“It is well documented that the overall installed capacity of solar PV in Turkey reached 6,000 MW this year,” said Dr. Sarioglu. “We can expect more capacity increase, thanks to the introduction of new net-metering legislation for unlicensed roof-top solar PV power plants to promote self-consumption, advances in energy storage, and regulatory changes for hybrid power plants.”
