Stantec team recognised for innovative assessment approach to brownfield regeneration project Centre Square

Stantec’s innovative approach to assessing Centre Square, a brownfield regeneration site on a former gas works in High Wycombe, has been shortlisted for the Brownfield Redevelopment Project of the Year at the Ground Engineering Awards.
The site, in the centre of High Wycombe, had previously been subject to remediation to remove and manage primary sources of contamination associated with its prior land use. However, it then remained derelict for over 10 years following this initial remediation as it was considered too expensive to further remediate the residual risks through conventional means that would permit residential development of the site.
Stantec’s work on the project included groundwater modelling and risk management, land quality assessment and development of an innovative remediation strategy together with stakeholder consultation, construction support and on-site verification.
Stantec’s work contributed to the successful granting of planning permission for residential units and commercial space through de-risking of the development and safeguarding groundwater resources, while saving the client substantial remediation costs

The awards ceremony takes place on 5 June at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, London.
