Massive equipment and advanced technology in proton therapy centers can be intimidating to a cancer patient, but that is not the case at Proton International at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Through a continued partnership with developer/owner Proton International, our team at Stantec designed a new proton therapy center, creating a healing environment that provides support and comfort. Located on the UAB campus several blocks from the main hospital, the design of this new two-story, freestanding structure blends with the existing campus’s architectural guidelines and complements the surrounding community with its brick and metal panel façade punctuated by a living green wall.
