Growing awareness for men’s health: Stantec’s 2024 Movember campaign

December 18, 2024

Stantec raised $70,000 for Movember, uniting teams globally to spark conversations and support men’s health initiatives

This Movember, we proudly united to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Through our global efforts, 144 employees across 19 teams in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom came together to support this vital cause.

The results were inspiring—our teams raised just over $54,000 with over $27,000 raised in Canada alone. With an additional donation from the Company, our total contribution to Movember reached $70,000.

Why Movember Matters

Movember’s mission extends beyond raising funds; it’s about starting conversations and creating supportive spaces for men to take control of their health. This work is crucial for everyone as men’s health challenges can have a profound ripple effect on families, workplaces, and communities.

Jeff Grob, a colleague in our New York City office, says this about his cancer diagnosis: “Listening to my body saved my life,” Jeff shared. “When something didn’t feel right, I didn’t ignore it. I took immediate action, started asking questions, and that led to my successful cure.” Jeff’s story highlights the importance of awareness and action. By fostering open discussions about men’s health, we hope more men will feel empowered to seek help and make informed decisions.

Creativity in Action: Fundraising Highlights

Our Calgary, Alberta, office took a fun and fiery approach to Movember fundraising with a “Blazing Burger” spicy burger challenge. Employees placed donation-based bids to watch their brave colleagues tackle spicy burgers. Thanks to their enthusiasm, the challenge raised $735, and the winner walked away with well-earned bragging rights—and a small tub of ice cream to cool down!

Our Latinos in Stantec (LiS) employee resource group (ERG) brought their mission to life through Movember. They created a team called LiStaches and Allies, raising $1,893 while encouraging meaningful dialogue about men’s health. Javier Rosero, Global Chair of LiS, reflected on the experience:

“Movember is about more than raising funds; it’s about promoting honest discussions and building supportive communities. This mission resonates deeply with one of LiS’s core values, Guía or guide. Movember has shown us the profound strength of community. Together, with love as our foundation, guided by purpose, and united by a shared vision, we can create a healthier, brighter future for all.”

Building a Brighter Future

Stantec’s commitment to Movember reflects our dedication to supporting mental and physical health for all. Every conversation sparked, dollar raised, and mustache grown helps reduce the stigma surrounding men’s health and creates a stronger, more compassionate community.

Together, we’re making a difference—one mustache at a time.
