Flexible learning spaces that support the development of student independence through collaboration.

Alvin Independent School District (ISD) is a fast-growing school district. In order to prepare for future growth, they needed to build a new junior high—our team was there to help.

We developed a prototype for the school that includes flexible learning spaces that support the development of student independence through collaborative spaces and transparency. The school is designed to allow multiple after-hours activities to take place while keeping the academic side of the school safe. The large commons connect the outdoor learning spaces, the library, the learning stairs, and the cafeteria seamlessly while creating useful spaces for students and the community.  Students and teachers have direct access to natural daylight in every classroom and direct connections to flexible learning collaboration spaces just outside the classrooms and the openness of the campus gives the staff the ability to manage the school without sacrificing safety and security.

With the school now open, students can flourish in a modern environment that prepares them for the next step in their education.
