Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care

In 2012, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), the City University of New York (CUNY), and Hunter College jointly proposed to develop a new complex on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The project will add over a million square feet of space and facilitate multiple functions. Whereas MSKCC will use the David H. Koch Center to provide leading-edge treatment for cancer patients, CUNY and Hunter College will use the Science and Health Professionals building to establish a training and research facility.

The David H. Koch Center will focus on patients with hematologic cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and thoracic cancer. Among the most important improvements, the new facility will also provide space for patients needing bone marrow transplants, interventional radiology, recovery rooms, and clinical trials—MSKCC’s unique ability to take research straight from the laboratory to the clinical environments is what sets the campus apart.

The Science and Health Professionals building will house a school of nursing, scientific research labs, and a physical therapy program. The existing Hunter College campus has been using outdated and inadequate labs that were designed in the mid-1900s, and our plans will significantly advance student training, faculty research, and the school’s ability to compete for grants and other funding.
